Aftermath

Over the course of the next week crews worked to restore power to the rest of the New Hampshire.  By Christmas eve all state roads were open, all shelters were closed, and the state SEOC released its final situation report.  On January 2nd President George W. Bush declared New Hampshire a major disaster area, which allowed the state, certain localities, and qualified non-profits eligible for public assistance from FEMA.  Utility crews had strung over 100 miles of new wire , and entire systems needed to be rebuilt (PUC report, WMUR).  The Ice Storm of 2008 was the largest natural disaster in New Hampshires History.  It had proven to be an exhausting ten days, but the lights were back on for Christmas.
